What are fillings?
Fillings are a type of dental restoration used to treat damaged teeth. In Carmel, Indiana, fillings are used to repair the following dental conditions:
- Decayed or damaged teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Cracked teeth
- Very worn teeth
At our dental office, Dr. Taylor may suggest either composite or amalgam fillings.
What is the difference between composite and amalgam fillings?
Composite fillings are also called tooth-colored fillings because they are made from a type of resin or porcelain that can be matched to the color of your teeth. They are noted for their superior aesthetic qualities. Amalgam fillings are more traditional, and made from metal. Our experienced dentist, after thorough examination and discussion, will be able to determine which type of filling works best for your teeth.
How are fillings placed?
To place dental fillings, the damaged or decayed portion of the tooth must first be removed. Our dental team ensures that you feel comfortable during every filling treatment. Once the decay is removed, your tooth will be cleaned and prepared to receive the filling. Both composite and amalgam fillings are soft and malleable when placed on your tooth. This allows the filling to be shaped and polished to fit your natural bite before the filling hardens.
